Sort lines
Put a list in alphabetical order, sort it by length, reverse it or shuffle it.
Sorting options
- A to Z ignores capitals unless you tick “Capitals first”, which puts “Apple” before “apple”.
- Shortest first and Longest first count characters; lines of equal length are sorted A to Z.
- Reverse flips the list as it is, without sorting.
Questions
Why does “item 10” come after “item 2”?
With “Numbers by value” ticked (the default), numbers inside lines are compared as numbers, the way people expect. Untick it to compare digit by digit, as many programs do (“item 10” before “item 2”).
Does it sort accented letters correctly?
Yes: “éclair” sorts with the e’s, not after z. The order follows the alphabetical rules your browser uses for your language.
Is the shuffle really random?
Yes: every order is equally likely (the Fisher–Yates shuffle, with your browser’s random numbers). Choose “Shuffle again” for a new order.
Can it remove duplicates while sorting?
Use the duplicate line remover first, then sort the result.
