Why text gets extra spaces

Text copied from web pages often carries non-breaking spaces, two spaces after full stops (an old typing habit), or indentation from the original layout. They’re easy to miss but show up as uneven gaps once pasted elsewhere. This tool makes every run of spaces a single one.

Questions

What counts as an extra space?

Two or more spaces in a row become one. That includes non-breaking spaces and the other invisible space characters that come with text copied from web pages and word processors.

Can it remove spaces at the start and end of lines?

Yes: “Trim each line” removes them. It’s on by default.

What about tabs?

With “Tabs too” ticked, tabs are treated like spaces. Leave it unticked to keep tabs, for example in a table you’ll paste into a spreadsheet.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. It’s done in your browser, and your text is kept only in this tab.
