Remove line breaks

Paste text that breaks in the middle of sentences, and get it back as proper paragraphs.

Paragraphs

Done in your browser: your text is never uploaded, and isn’t kept once you close the tab.

How it works

Every line is trimmed of the spaces around it and joined to the next with a single space. With “Keep paragraphs”, an empty line (or several) marks the end of a paragraph, and the result has one empty line between paragraphs. Windows, Mac and Linux line breaks are all understood.

Questions

Why does text from a PDF have line breaks in the middle of sentences?

A PDF stores where each line sits on the page, not where sentences and paragraphs end. When you copy from it, every line of the page comes with a break at its end. Emails and some websites do the same.

Will it keep my paragraphs?

Yes, with “Keep paragraphs” chosen: lines are joined within each paragraph, and paragraphs separated by an empty line stay separate. Choose “Join everything” to get one block of text.

What happens to words split with a hyphen at the end of a line?

They’re joined with a space and the hyphen is kept (“well- known”), because a hyphen at a line end can belong to the word. Search for “- ” afterwards to fix the few that need it.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. It’s done in your browser, and your text is kept only in this tab.
