How Title Case decides

Each line and each sentence is treated as a title of its own: its first and last words are always capitalized, and so is the first word after a colon. In between, these short words stay lower-case: a, an, and, as, at, but, by, en, for, if, in, nor, of, off, on, or, per, so, the, to, up, via, vs, yet. Every part of a hyphenated word is capitalized (“Well-Known”). Style guides differ on prepositions of four or more letters (“With”, “Into”): this converter capitalizes them, as AP style does.

Questions

What’s the difference between Title Case and Capitalize Each Word?

Title Case follows the usual headline style: short words such as “a”, “of”, “the” and “and” stay lower-case unless they’re the first or last word of a line or sentence, or come after a colon. Capitalize Each Word capitalizes every word, small ones included.

Will it change words like iPhone or NASA?

In Title Case, words that already have capitals inside them (iPhone, NASA, McDonald) are left as they are. If your whole text is in capitals, it’s lowered first, so “THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS” becomes “The Wind in the Willows”.

Does Sentence case know about names?

No: it can’t tell a name from an ordinary word, so it lower-cases everything except the first letter of each sentence and the word “I”. Check names and places after converting.

What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case for?

They’re ways of writing names in code and file names without spaces. Each line is converted separately, so a list of names comes back as a list.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion happens in your browser. Your text is kept only in this tab, so you can switch to another tool without pasting it again, and it’s gone when you close the tab.
